As a new mother and housewife who had never traveled outside Nigeria, Mama Nimi faced a problem every parent knows too well: she wanted to give her daughter the best quality products, the nicest clothes, everything that would make her the happiest child ever. The childhood she herself never had. But in Port Harcourt, quality children's products were either impossible to find or outrageously expensive.
So she decided to change that. Not just for her daughter, but for every parent in Port Harcourt who wanted the best for their children.
The Heart of a Trader
Business runs in Mama Nimi's blood. Growing up in Jos, she watched her mother sell grains and foodstuff in the bustling market, learning the art of trade from childhood. She learned to spot quality, to negotiate with confidence, and most importantly, to connect with people person by person.
When her daughter was born, those trading instincts awakened. The love she had for her own mother, the lessons learned at her side in that Jos market, now channeled into a new mission: creating a place where every mother could find quality, affordability, and trust all in one place.
What started as a tiny street shop on King Perekule Street with just 100 products has grown into Southern Nigeria's premier children's store, with over 6,000 carefully curated products spanning everything from baby's first formula to a teenager's graduation outfit.
Why 'Nimi'?
The name carries a special significance. Nimi is the name of Mama Nimi's youngest child, a name she knew she would give him even before he was born. Naming the store after him was her way of infusing the business with the same love, hope, and dedication she has for her own children.
And something unexpected happened. Customers started calling her 'Nimi' too. Not 'Madam' or 'Ma.' Just Nimi. Like she was their friend, their big sister, someone they could trust with their most precious concern: their children's happiness and wellbeing.
The name stuck because it represents what we've always been: personal, caring, and family.

From day one, Mama Nimi made a promise: every product in this store would be something she would give to her own children. That meant traveling abroad multiple times a year to source the best quality products directly. No middlemen. No compromises.
Today, she makes quarterly sourcing trips abroad, personally selecting each product based on strict criteria: quality materials, organic ingredients where it matters, trusted brands, and fair pricing. If it doesn't meet her standard, it doesn't make it to our shelves.
